Ghana: integrated industrial complex

Petrochemical Holding GmbH and GreenRock are developing two industrial projects in Ghana under a signed Memorandum of Understanding: a chemical production complex and a platform for gold-bearing mining waste recovery and environmental rehabilitation.

The chemical complex is planned to produce sodium cyanide for Ghana’s gold-mining industry, together with caustic soda and other chlor-alkali products. Local production will help reduce imports and strengthen domestic supply chains. The second project will recover gold from accumulated tailings and mining waste while supporting land rehabilitation and reducing the environmental impact of historic mining operations.

The MoU was signed in June 2026 with Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Authority. The projects will be developed through GreenRock Petrochemical Ghana Limited, subject to feasibility studies, regulatory approvals and investment decisions.

As part of its long-term plans, PCH is also considering the development of a large-scale greenhouse complex using CO₂ from the chemical production facilities. The project would support the year-round cultivation of high-quality vegetables and fruit for the Ghanaian market, contributing to food security, import substitution and the creation of additional local jobs. Solar generation with energy storage is also being considered as a long-term development option.
